Stratton Hibbs of Tyler will play the title role in The Magician's Nephew, with Ron Solomon of Tyler as his bumbling Uncle Andrew when TCTC's presentation of this prequel to The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe opens for nine performances on Friday, April 23, 2010.
Cast as Polly, the friend and neighbor who accompanies young Diggory to Narnia, is Faith Wilkerson of Tyler. Carol Wilcox of Tyler will play Lettie, Andrew's sister and Diggory's aunt, who tries to keep Andrew grounded in reality.
TCTC newcomer Stephanie Waters of Lindale will be seen as Jadis, the White Witch who fancies herself Queen of Narnia. Playing Aslan the Lion, true King of Narnia, is Zack Vidal of Winona.
A host of young actors will appear as the speaking animals Diggory and Polly meet in Narnia. They include:
Daniel Seguin of Tyler as an ape
Keely Acker of Whitehouse as a bird
Bret Thompson of Tyler as a faun
Matthew Spellman of Tyler and Nathan Steele of Winona as monkeys
Skyler Brumit of Tyler and Emily George of Chandler as rabbits
Conner Campbell and Ryan McWha, both of Tyler, as wildcats
Portraying the speaking trees in Narnia will be Mary Gray and Karah Nance, both of Lindale, Abigail Vidal of Winona and Audrey Waters of Lindale will play tree nymphs.
Tilly Flores of Tyler co-directs with TCTC's education director, DeAnna Hargrove, with Elissa Thompson of Tyler as stage manager. Sara Gonzalez of Lindale and Sam Vidal of Winona will be in the tech booth, with Sara Herber in charge of costumes and make-up designed by Tilly Flores. Grace Seguin of Tyler and Adriana Waters of Lindale will supervise props. The producers of the show are Bill Burgdorf of Tyler and Millisa George of Chandler.
Although The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe was the first of the Narnia Chronicles that C. S. Lewis wrote, The Magician's Nephew precedes it in fictional time. Diggory grows up to become the Professor of The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe. The novel from which this play was adapted by Aurand Harris tells how inept Uncle Andrew keeps sending Diggory and Polly back and forth from London to other worlds. In one instance, Jadis manages to return with them, much to the dismay of both Aunt Lettie and the London constabulary.
The play will be given in the Rogers Theatre on three Friday evenings (April 23 and 30 and May 7), three Saturday evenings (April 24 and May 1 and 8), and three Sunday afternoons (April 25 and May 2 and 9). It is the fourth and final play of the Rogers Theatre season. Individual tickets are available at $12 per adult and $10 per student (see below). Curtain time is 7:30 p.m. for evening performances and 2:30 p.m. for matinees.
