Seven creative young actors and their director are collaborating to bring Rudyard Kipling's "Just So Stories" to life at the Tyler Civic Theatre Center. In line with TCTC's mission to entertain, educate, and enrich, this production is aimed specifically at young ones who attend pre-school, go to day care centers, or are in the early elementary grades. It is not part of the Rogers Theatre season.
Interested facilities and schools should contact boxoffice@tylercivictheatre.com to book group seating at 9:45 a.m. on Tuesday, October 20. The theater is 7/8 booked for Thursday, October 22, but there is a room for a group of 15. The ticket price is $5 per child, with accompanying teachers admitted at no charge.
The performance on Saturday, October 24, is for families of children who are unable to attend on October 20 or 22. The ticket prices will be $8 adult and $6 student.
All groups must book and pay in advance. The performances begin at 9:45 a.m. in the Rogers Theatre.
The company began with a script adapted by Joseph Robinette but have added their own twists -- for example, with the exception of the character of Elsie, Kipling's daughter, each actor will use his or her own name to portray Elsie's imaginary friend. Through the use of puppetry and their acting skills, the imaginary friends will appear to Elsie as the dog, the ox, the camel, the djinn, the farmer, the water, the trees, the rhinooceros, the baboon, the crocodile, the lion, the snake, and the kolokolo bird.
The company members are Brianna Beard, Brittany Beard, Skyler Brumit, Conner Campbell, Nathan Steele, Hunter Regian, and Hannah Root. Their director is DeAnna Hargrove, director of education at TCTC. Robin Root is creating costumes, and Torri Beard will supply tech support.
